We love when customers come prepared for their purchase even if it is their first time at our farm. We prefer to think about the 3C’s when visiting a local farm.

What Should I Bring to a Local Lavender Farm in Michigan?

Comfortable Shoes

This may seem like an odd idea, but many of our local lavender farms have uneven ground as they are “working farms” where the ground is relatively flat but may be uneven. You should come prepared with closed-toe shoes. Please don’t walk in areas that are not allowed at the farm. It is always best not to run or jump around the lavender plants or animals for your safety and the farm’s well-being.

Coolers

If you are buying refrigerated or frozen items, please come prepared with a cooler. There is nothing worse than buying cold items at a local farm and not having a way to keep it cool during your drive home.

Cash

As Dave Ramsey would say, cash is king! Remember that you will need a way to buy your goods from your local lavender farms. Many local farm stores are self-service and cash is the simplest form of payment where the farmer doesn’t need to pay service fees for selling items. Some local farms use electronic payment methods such as Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Other farms may have access to a credit card machine.

Are Bees and Other Wildlife Present?

When you visit a local lavender farm in Michigan, please be aware that bees and other wildlife are likely present. Please follow the directions of the farmer for how you should address this, but we have found that bees and smaller wildlife like butterflies will typically leave you alone. Of course, if you have allergies to specific plants, animals, or seasonal allergens please come prepared.

When Are The Best Times to Visit Local Lavender Farms in Michigan?

Although the local lavender farm in Michigan may have specific times that they are open, we have found that some times in the season may be more optimal than others. For instance, to grab fresh lavender bundles, then you will want to shop during the Summer harvest (typically late June to August depending on the growing zone).

Allegan, MI

Twin Flame Lavender is located in Allegan, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm is located 15 miles from Lake MIchigan in the heart of the Allegan Forest. With a little more than 1000 lavender plants of 2 varieties (a culinary and intermediary variety), Twin Flame is a haven for your next lavender destination.

Twin Flame specializes in creating dozens of unique lavender products from organically and sustainably grown lavender on their farm. You will find an array of culinary and cosmetic creations that are ready for your home. You won’t find lavender essential oils in a majority of their products and instead you will find hydrosol. Lavender hydrosol is a steam distilled water vapor that releases the lavender scent in their water based products.

Another quality that sets this farm apart is they grow 80% of their blue, pink, purple, and white lavenders from seed. While many lavender farms are growing lavender from cuttings, Twin Flame is going above and beyond by growing plants from seed. If you have never tried to grow lavender, it is incredibly difficult to grow from seed.

Alma, MI

Sixteen Sprigs North Lavender Farm is located in Alma, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm is woman-owned and they pride themselves on supporting other female owned farms. If you’ve been a Sixteen Sprigs friend in the past, you know we’ve been growing lavender in the Lansing area since 2014, but it’s time to spread our wings. We’re pleased as punch that we opened the farm in 2023. We’ve prepared the soil, planted lavender and restored the old farmhouse into a charming on-farm boutique just for you. Farming in rural Gratiot County is more difficult than growing lavender in the city and we’re still learning, but the lavender is both beautiful and bountiful. We have around 1200 plants established and are still planting more each year.

We urge you to come experience the farm with us. You’re welcome to take one of our many tours or workshops, or come by for u-pick from mid June to late July and sit awhile in our garden while enjoying our locally made lavender ice cream. Willow Pond Farm is located in Armada, Michigan. This Michigan farms grows lavender and makes many products from other items on their farm. Some of the products that they produce include oil of Oregano, Magnesium Spray, Tallow Lotion, Candles, and Lip Balm…just to name a few.

Blake Farms is located in Armada, Michigan. This Michigan attraction is home to an abundance of lavender and many more amazing items. Each year they host a lavender festival that is bound to attract so many amazing vendors.

Lavender Hill Farm is located in Boyne City, Michigan. Established in 2003, Lavender Hill Farm is the largest lavender farm in Michigan with over 6000 plants. This farm has a special place in our lives as it is the farm that started our lavender journey.

Lavender Hill Farm invites visitors of all ages to explore the sight, scent, and taste of lavender at their Certified Naturally Grown farm. The largest lavender farm in Michigan, this are home to 30 varieties of lavender, Italian honeybees, and a restored century old barn where live music performances, weddings, lunches, and private events are held.

Choose to explore their farm on foot or by golf cart and be immersed in a world of lavender from a boots-on-the-ground perspective.  Take a self-guided tour and enjoy the beauty of these lavender fields and gardens, explore the enchanting fairy garden, wander through the tranquil labyrinth, observe our hardworking honeybees, and take in the charm of our historic century-old Events Barn. Buckley, MI

The Rusty Moose Garden & Gifts is located in Buckley, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm turns their plants into various products like lavender soap, lavender butter cream, culinary lavender, and more.

From their website: “After moving “Up North” in early 2017, Nancy and Randy Pelky found themselves with a beautiful plot of land that they knew they could farm on. After many hours of research and brainstorming, they discovered that Lavender would be the perfect crop for their soil type and climate. Nancy and Randy travelled to Washington State to learn from one of the foremost Lavender cultivators in the Nation. They visited many farms, and brought all of the new-found knowledge and passion back home to Buckley. In total, 4,000 Lavender plants are now grown on the property. 

​Lavender takes 1-2 seasons to mature into a state in which it can be used for products. At this time, most plants on the property are ready to be harvested and made into great smelling products. Nancy participated in the MSU Extension Master Gardener program in 2019. During her time in the program, she developed a strong interest in harvesting and cultivating plants from seeds. This led to the opening of the U-Pick flower area in 2020.

Charlotte, MI

Carlisle Lavender is located in Charlotte, Michigan. This lavender farm is home to nearly 1,500 plants where they create an assortment of products from their farm grown lavender. They have a super adorable horse trailer that has been converted into a mobile storefront, too. If you stop by for a lavender u-pick event, they provide baskets and scissors for your convenience.

This farm is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays while the lavender is in bloom (typically in June or July with a second bloom again in September). This farm is growing six different varieties of lavender that all peak at slightly different times in the season.

Lil’Lavender Acres is located in Dafter, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm grows an abundance of lavender and sunflowers. Eau Claire, MI

Sassafras Acres is located in Eau Claire, Michigan. This Michigan farm grows a variety of herbs including lavender. They raise honeybees on their property to help grow amazing herbs.

Summerhouse Lavender Farm is located in Fennville, Michigan. This lavender farm began as a venture by Dan McGavin and Carol Brown to get back to a meaningful connection to community and nature. The Saugatuck/Douglas area with its creative and artistic vibe has always been a peaceful retreat for visitors and local inhabitants alike.

To celebrate their love for this community, a one acre parcel of land that had been used as a horse farm for the past 25+ years, has been transformed into a community gathering place and peaceful oasis for visitors. It was a perfect location with naturally sandy soil, lots of sun, and all of the natural necessities for growing lavender.

Even with over 1,000 lavender plants, they knew that a community space would need more than just the calming effects of lavender. With that in mind, peaceful gardens, bird feeders, exotic trees, a zen garden, fountains, sculptures and many small sitting spaces were added to embrace and enhance that sense of calm restfulness everyone needs. They strive to help as many people as they can to reconnect with the earth and all of its sounds, sights, smells, and the peace these bring to our soul. In 2022, this legacy was passed on to Eric Adams, a Michigan native, with a shared love of community, nature, the arts, and all things peaceful.

Lucky Clover Farm is located in Gaylord, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm sits atop an 80 acre parcel of land with a stunning view. Up here, they sell hand-harvested, organically grown, culinary lavender. It is evident that this lavender is Michigan grown with so much love + dedicated care.

Awakening Lavender Farm is our second farm located in Gaylord, Michigan. This lavender farm in Michigan was established in 2022 by Kurt and Amy Harjala. In the spring of 2022 the first baby lavender plants were planted in the ground. Full Moon Lavender Farm is located in Howell, Michigan. This lavender farm may not have an online presence, but don’t let that stop you from checking them out. From the Great Lakes Lavender Growers Association website: “We are a new lavender farm in Southeast Michigan, growing over 25 cultivars on a small area of our 106 acres.

Over the next few years, we plan on expanding our lavender fields, having an annual lavender festival as well as smaller community events, hosting workshops for crafts and oil distilling, operating a farm store selling multiple lavender products, and giving tours of the farm. We are currently working on obtaining our USDA organic certification.”

Indigo Lavender Farms is located in Imlay City, Michigan. This farm began in 2015 after a lot of research. Although in their first year, they had just under 4,000 plants, they now grow more than 14,000 lavender plants.

This farm is 50 acres and you will find an abundance of agriculture and wildlife here. You will find everything from the 14,000+ plants, to their farm store, greenhouse, garden, chicken coop, wetlands and more. They pride themselves on growing plants without pesticides or other chemicals.

Leelanau Lavender is located in Lake Leelanau, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm offers handcrafted products made with their lavender plants. Lansing, MI

Sixteen Sprigs Lavender Farm is located in Lansing, Michigan. If you think you are seeing this farm twice on the same list, you would be correct. Sixteen Sprigs is also located in Alma at a separate location. The Lansing, Michigan location is their primary farm site. If you happen to be in the area, get them a look and let us know about your experience!

Urban Lavender is located in the heart of Lansing, Michigan. Although this lavender farm hasn’t posted recently on Facebook, we would encourage you to give them a follow and check out their farm if you are in the area. We know that many lavender farms have struggled with getting their word out and this is why we love promoting other farms here. We are especially grateful for their using lavender for mental health and trauma support.

Leslie, MI

Hidden Spruce Lavender Farm is located in Leslie, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm was started on a 10 acre parcel of land that was purchased in the early 90’s. The original property had one tree growing on it!

From their website: “We built a house and started planting pine and spruce trees, throughout the property. Eight years later with nearly twelve hundred trees planted. We had the opportunity to purchase the 10 acre parcel of land next door. This land, next door would become Hidden Spruce Lavender.”

This farm has now grown to 4000+ lavender plants and they are still growing. They distill many of the essential oils that they use in their products that are sold at the farm, online, and at local markets. In addition to their abundance of lavender, they grow many varieties of cut flower and perennial flowers.

We love this statement from their website… “We’re thankful to God, who has given us this wonderful opportunity to care and nurture what He created.” We couldn’t agree more with this opportunity He has given us on our farm, too.

Manchester, MI

Lavender& Grace Family Farm is located in Manchester, Michigan. This Michigan Lavender farm produces a variety of custom lavender products from the lavender growing on their farm. Lavender and Grace Family Farm makes hand made artisan products. including soaps, lotions, lip balms, bath products, lavender buds, fresh and dry lavender. Maple City, MI

Maple Ridge Farm is located in Maple City, Michigan. This lavender farm has five varieties of 3300 lavender plants. We have a bee yard located next to the lavender field. Originally, the lavender was planted for bee food, but we then decided to add lavender products to our assortment of honey and maple syrup products which are all produced on the farm.

Lavender Lane Farm offers two locations in Milan, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm boasts over 10,000 lavender plants where they source lavender for their vast array of health and wellness products. Midland, MI

The Lavender Fleece is a lavender farm located in Midland, Michigan. The Lavender Fleece has been growing lavender since 1999. They offer lavender group tours to teach those interested what they need to know to successfully grow and harvest lavender. They also offer a lavender themed line of hand thrown pottery, handmade lavender based soaps and other lavender products, all made here at their farm by proprietess Laurie Ball-Gisch, who is not only a Master Gardener, but also a potter, shepherdess, soap maker, weaver and more.

Niles, MI

Lavender Hill Farm of Niles, Michigan is located in Niles, Michigan. This Michigan lavender farm produces a TON of lavender products from lavender sourced on their farm.

This family owned and operated farm has been in existence 2001. They are located in the scenic, rolling hills of Berrien County in southwest Michigan. Their 1.25 acre lavender field has over 4000 lavender plants, of eight varieties. They specialize in growing and selling lavender flowers and plants, and their many farm-made lavender products, featuring Lavender Honey (just the way the bees make it) and distilled lavender essential oil and fragrant lavender water (hydrosol).

Their farm shop is open June – August, Monday – Saturday, 10am to 4pm, with limited days and hours in spring and fall, starting in April and continuing till just before Christmas.

New Buffalo, MI

One Hundred Acre Farm is located in New Buffalo, Michigan. This farm is located in southwest Michigan, part of Harbor Country. Their lavender field has 800 plants of three varieties.

They open a roadside stand seasonally with fresh picked lavender (when available), dried lavender, and lavender products made on the farm.

Rockford, MI

The Great Lakes Lavender Growers group was formed in 2014 to:

  • Create a network for information sharing and collaboration among commercial lavender growers.
  • Promote the lavender industry through education and research
  • Promote and brand Great Lakes Lavender

The GLLG hosts the Great Lakes Lavender Growers annual conference in March of each year. Although they are not affiliated with the U.S. Lavender Growers Association, they enjoy a constructive relationship with the USLGA and several of their members sit on the board of this national lavender organization.  They also enjoy a productive working relationship with Michigan State University Extension which provides supporting personnel and often sponsors their efforts.

Shelby, MI

Cherry Point Farm & Market is located in Shelby, Michigan. This lavender farm in Michigan is home to a gorgeous lavender labyrinth, too.

Hickory Creek Lavender Farm is located in Stevensville, Michigan.  Beautiful lavender fields

season—approximately mid-June through the end of July.
