What Should I Bring to a Local Lavender Farm in North Carolina?

Comfortable Shoes

It might seem like an unusual suggestion, but many of our local lavender farms have uneven terrain since theyโ€™re “working farms.” While the ground is generally flat, it can be a bit uneven in spots. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes for comfort and safety. Please also avoid walking in restricted areas on the farm. For your safety, and to protect the lavender plants and animals, itโ€™s best to refrain from running or jumping around.

Coolers

If you are buying refrigerated or frozen items, please come prepared with a cooler. There is nothing worse than buying cold items at a local farm and not having a way to keep it cool during your drive home.

Cash

As Dave Ramsey would say, cash is king! Remember that you will need a way to buy your goods from your local lavender farms. Many local farm stores are self-service and cash is the simplest form of payment where the farmer doesn’t need to pay service fees for selling items. Some local farms use electronic payment methods such as Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Other farms may have access to a credit card machine.

Are Bees and Other Wildlife Present?

Yes, bees and other wildlife are typically present at lavender farms in North Carolina. Bees are attracted to the lavender, but they usually donโ€™t pose a problem and tend to leave visitors alone. Smaller wildlife, like butterflies, is also common. However, if you have allergies to certain plants, animals, or seasonal allergens, itโ€™s a good idea to come prepared. Be sure to follow the farmerโ€™s guidance on how to interact with wildlife during your visit.

When Are The Best Times to Visit Local Lavender Farms in North Carolina?

The best time to visit lavender farms in North Carolina is typically during the summer harvest, which usually runs from late June to August, depending on the growing zone. This is when youโ€™ll find fresh lavender bundles available for purchase. Keep in mind that prices for some items may vary depending on the season and the growing conditions of that particular year. Always check with the farm for their specific hours and availability.

Jacqueline, the eldest, is a local cosmetologist who helps on the farm when sheโ€™s not working or studying. Our three youngest children are homeschooled, and they enjoy helping around the farm, playing with the animals, and occasionally serving guests during our tea parties.

When people ask us, โ€œWhy lavender?โ€ we explain that itโ€™s because of its timeless beauty, soothing scent, and versatile healing properties. Lavender essential oil is often referred to as the โ€œSwiss Army Knifeโ€ of oils due to its calming, antibacterial, and therapeutic benefits. While we say we chose lavender, in many ways, lavender has chosen us. The countless stories we hear from our customers about how this simple flower has touched their lives in such profound ways continue to inspire us. We like to think that itโ€™s all part of God’s plan, and we canโ€™t wait to share it with you.”
