Tips For Shopping at Your Local Lavender Farms in New York

We love when customers come prepared for their purchase even if it is their first time at our farm. We prefer to think about the 3C’s when visiting a local farm.

What Should I Bring to a Local Lavender Farm in New York?

Comfortable Shoes

It might seem like an unusual suggestion, but many of our local lavender farms have uneven terrain since theyโ€™re “working farms.” While the ground is generally flat, it can be a bit uneven in spots. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes for comfort and safety. Please also avoid walking in restricted areas on the farm. For your safety, and to protect the lavender plants and animals, itโ€™s best to refrain from running or jumping around.

Coolers

If you are buying refrigerated or frozen items, please come prepared with a cooler. There is nothing worse than buying cold items at a local farm and not having a way to keep it cool during your drive home.

Cash

As Dave Ramsey would say, cash is king! Remember that you will need a way to buy your goods from your local lavender farms. Many local farm stores are self-service and cash is the simplest form of payment where the farmer doesn’t need to pay service fees for selling items. Some local farms use electronic payment methods such as Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Other farms may have access to a credit card machine.

Are Bees and Other Wildlife Present?

Yes, bees and other wildlife are typically present at lavender farms in New York. Bees are attracted to the lavender, but they usually donโ€™t pose a problem and tend to leave visitors alone. Smaller wildlife, like butterflies, is also common. However, if you have allergies to certain plants, animals, or seasonal allergens, itโ€™s a good idea to come prepared. Be sure to follow the farmerโ€™s guidance on how to interact with wildlife during your visit.

The Farm now grows a variety of lavenders used for crafting, (soapmaking of course), aromatherapy and culinary.  “
