What Should I Bring to a Local Lavender Farm in Georgia?
Comfortable Shoes
This may seem like an odd idea, but many of our local lavender farms have uneven ground as they are “working farms” where the ground is relatively flat but may be uneven. You should come prepared with closed-toe shoes. Please don’t walk in areas that are not allowed at the farm. It is always best not to run or jump around the lavender plants or animals for your safety and the farm’s well-being.

Coolers
If you are buying refrigerated or frozen items, please come prepared with a cooler. There is nothing worse than buying cold items at a local farm and not having a way to keep it cool during your drive home.
Cash
As Dave Ramsey would say, cash is king! Remember that you will need a way to buy your goods from your local lavender farms. Many local farm stores are self-service and cash is the simplest form of payment where the farmer doesn’t need to pay service fees for selling items. Some local farms use electronic payment methods such as Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Other farms may have access to a credit card machine.
Are Bees and Other Wildlife Present?
When you visit a local lavender farm in Georgia, please be aware that bees and other wildlife are likely present. Please follow the directions of the farmer for how you should address this, but we have found that bees and smaller wildlife like butterflies will typically leave you alone. Of course, if you have allergies to specific plants, animals, or seasonal allergens please come prepared.

When Are The Best Times to Visit the Local Lavender Farm in Georgia?
Although the local lavender farm in Georgia may have specific times that they are open, we have found that some times in the season may be more optimal than others. For instance, to grab fresh lavender bundles, then you will want to shop during the Summer harvest (typically late June to August depending on the growing zone).
Please know that the price of some items may change depending on the season or may be adjusted based on the challenges of the growing conditions during a particular year.

Here is a snippet from their website about this beautiful farm…
“Red Oak Lavender Farm LLC is owned by David and Tina. After years of loving the outdoors, David hiking all over the US and Ireland, and Tina’s love for gardening, Tina decided to turn over a very outgrown pasture into a field of lavender. She studied and researched for a year before planting her first plant, because funds were very low and she was told that lavender could not grow in Georgia with its acidic clay soil and huge amount of rainfall and humidity. But this one simple garden grew, so one more field was planted with the help of a college student who grew up on his family farm.

Then Tina met David, a retired engineer who retired from the GDOT as a material expert. Their knowledge was bound to create the most amazing farm where lavender and flowers abound. David knew what amendments had to be added and had a passion to grow the business by planting many fields of lavender and then he also added Dahlias, his grandmother’s passion which he helped her care for these beauties.
Since the six years they met the farm has grown to 5 acres filled with lavender and specialty flowers for so many visitors to enjoy. They have added lavender products, which they sell in their cottage shop, and have workshops to share their love and passion for lavender and flowers. ‘

From their website…
It’s been a lifelong dream of ours to own a farm with an ol farmhouse to renovate and, to be honest, we were unsure if it would ever be more than a dream. In May of 2019, after years of searching, we were approached by Glenn & Kathleen Beckham about purchasing a portion of their 5th generation family farm dating back to the 1870โs. It took almost a year and a half to get the deal done and we closed in Jan 2021. Glenn, along with his brother and two sisters, had inherited the 500 acre horse and cattle ranch. Glenn bought the entire ranch from his siblings, but needed to sell a portion of the property to make the deal work. Thatโs when they approached us.

We nearly passed out in their driveway when they told us they wanted to sell of their 1885 farmhouse complete with vintage barns and gorgeous surrounding pastureland. It is simply picture perfect with rolling hills and pastures, alongside woods and seasonal views of Pine Mountain Ridge. This was truly a dream come true.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect! We were able to sell our farm and move our lavender and flower growing farm operation to our โnewโ farm. We went straight to work on the 1870’s farmhouse and barns with the goal of turning them into an idyllic setting for weddings that matches the breath taking beauty of this land. It will be a years long project to turn the farmhouse and property into the vision we have, but weโre up for the task.”
