We were also thrilled to discover that many of these farms are hosting special events for the upcoming holiday season!

Tips For Shopping at Your Local Lavender Farms in Texas

We love when customers come prepared for their purchase even if it is their first time at our farm. We prefer to think about the 3C’s when visiting a local farm.

What Should I Bring to a Local Lavender Farm in Texas?

Comfortable Shoes

It may seem like an unexpected tip, but many of our local lavender farms have uneven terrain since theyโ€™re “working farms.” While most areas are flat, there can be some uneven spots, so be sure to wear closed-toe shoes for comfort and safety. Please also avoid walking in restricted areas of the farm. For both your safety and to protect the lavender plants and animals, we recommend refraining from running or jumping around.

Coolers

If you are buying refrigerated or frozen items, please come prepared with a cooler. There is nothing worse than buying cold items at a local farm and not having a way to keep it cool during your drive home.

Cash

As Dave Ramsey often says, cash is king! Keep in mind that you’ll need a way to pay for your purchases at local lavender farms. Many farm stores are self-service, and cash is the simplest payment option since it avoids service fees for the farmer. Some farms also accept electronic payments like Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, while others may offer credit card machines.

Are Bees and Other Wildlife Present?

Yes, bees and other wildlife are commonly found at lavender farms in Texas. Bees are drawn to the lavender but typically don’t bother visitors and tend to go about their business. You may also spot smaller wildlife like butterflies. However, if you have allergies to specific plants, animals, or seasonal allergens, it’s a good idea to come prepared. Be sure to follow the farmerโ€™s instructions on how to interact with wildlife during your visit.

When Are The Best Times to Visit Local Lavender Farms in Texas?

The best time to visit lavender farms in Texas is during the summer harvest, typically from late June to August, depending on the growing zone. This is when fresh lavender bundles are available for purchase. Prices for some items may fluctuate based on the season and the growing conditions of that year, so it’s always a good idea to check with the farm for their specific hours and availability.

Brenham

Chappell Hill Lavender Farm is located in Brenham, Texas. This Texas lavender farm offers a variety of events, classes, lavender products, and more.

From their website: “The farm was started in 2003.  The McDowell’s had no intention of growing lavender when they moved to the farm from Houston, but later decided that they wanted to make use of the rolling hill that cascades down to the pond.  They began their adventure with just 20 plants to see how they would adapt to the Texas climate.  Those plants did well so they began planting the fields in groups of 600 per season.  They have had their challenges with the humidity and rainfall but the rewards far outway the problems.  The farm has 23 rolling acres, 3-4 of which are dedicated to growing lavender.  There are two primary varieties grown with the two blooming seasons.  Most of the products in the gift shop are handmade here on the farm.  Many local craftspeople also sell their wares in the gift shop.  Recently, fruit trees and blackberries were added to the fields so that visitors could pick when the fruit is ripe.”

With help from friends and their daughter, they planted 10,000 lavender plants, including varieties like โ€˜Grossoโ€™ and โ€˜Provence.โ€™

Despite setbacks from droughts and floods, the Beckers discovered that the Stoechas variety thrived in the hot Texas climate. Today, visitors to Becker Vineyards can enjoy award-winning wines and explore Clementine’s Garden, a lavender field named in honor of their daughter, now trimmed to 500 plants. The vineyard offers a variety of lavender products, including soap, sachets, lotions, and candles, available at their tasting rooms.

The trails are surrounded by wildflower production fields and vineyards. Complete with serene seating areas throughout the paths, the gardens are an ideal place to relax and enjoy mother nature.

From their website: “After graduating from Sam Houston State University, John and Marilyn Thomas married and worked on his father’s ranch in Eagle Lake, Texas, for seven years. John then started American Hydro-Grass in Houston, which led him to plant wildflowers at the Eagle Lake property in 1981. This evolved into Wildseed Farms, founded in 1982. As more people visited to see the flowers, the Thomases opened the fields to the public in 1989.

To meet growing demand, they renovated a hay barn and opened a gift shop. In 1993, Wildseed Farms expanded by purchasing 217 acres near Fredericksburg, increasing their farm to over 600 acres. Encouraged by her mother, she created a lavender labyrinth with wheelchair-accessible paths, a project she often drove her mother through. After the passing of her parents, Bernadette built the lavender rosary in their memory. Her passion for the lavender community led her to become a charter member and treasurer of the Texas Lavender Association.

Her dream flourished when she met Patience Diaz, leading to the creation of Imagine Lavender Farm at Rocking L Ranch. Years later, the farm was sold and relocated, and Bernadette met Eleta and Maria Sanchez, a mother-daughter duo who shared her passion.
